There are restaurants that come and go with the seasons in Delhi, riding a wave of hype and disappearing before you've even had a chance to revisit. And then there is Diva. Tucked into M Block Market in Greater Kailash 2, this Italian institution has been feeding South Delhi since 2000 — without needing to reinvent itself every few months to stay relevant. Twenty-five years is a long time in the restaurant business. In Delhi, it's practically a lifetime.
The place opened in 2000. While the rest of us were worried about Y2K, Chef Ritu Dalmia was busy bringing honest, no-compromise Italian food to a city that didn't quite know what to do with Parma ham and wood-fired pizzas yet. She had a vision, a wood-fired oven, and the kind of stubbornness that only comes from genuinely believing in what you're cooking. Twenty-five years later, Diva is still here, still full on weekends, and still the first name that comes up when someone in South Delhi says they want a proper Italian meal. And that, in Delhi's brutally competitive restaurant scene, is no small feat.
The Woman Behind the Magic
You cannot talk about Diva without talking about Ritu Dalmia. She is the kind of chef who doesn't need an introduction in Delhi food circles — self-taught, uncompromising, and fiercely passionate about Italian cuisine. Her family ran a marble business that took them to Italy regularly, and somewhere between those trips, she fell completely, irreversibly in love with Italian food. No formal training, no culinary school — just an obsessive love for good pasta and the conviction that Delhi deserved the real thing.
Walking In — The Vibe and the Interiors
Diva GK2 is spread across two floors, and they each have their own personality. The ground floor is home to the more casual Café Diva, where the energy is lighter and the menu a little more relaxed. Head upstairs and you're in the fine dining section — the proper Diva experience. The décor is minimalistic. It's the kind of space that whispers "elegant" rather than shouting it. If you can grab a table by the window, do it — you get a lovely view of the M Block market buzz outside, which makes for wonderful people-watching while you wait for your bruschetta. Only around 35 covers — which means the place fills up fast. By nine on a weekend, don't be surprised to find it packed to capacity with more people waiting to get in.
The Food — The Real Reason You're Here
Ritu Dalmia imports a large part of her ingredients directly from Italy — fresh and seasonal, flown in to ensure the menu stays true to its roots. The menu changes with the seasons, which is very much an Italian kitchen principle, and it's one of the things that keeps regulars coming back to see what's new.

The Staff — Knowledgeable, Mostly Lovely
The restaurant staff runs like a clockwork — efficiently, with good energy.. The Diva team is well-trained, knowledgeable, and attentive. They know the menu inside out, they can talk you through the wine selection and they have the good sense to be present without hovering.
The Honest Bit — When It Doesn't Go Right
No article worth its salt leaves out the rough edges, and Diva has had some. The special tasting menus — particularly the "Atrangi by Ritu Dalmia" experience — came away a little disappointing, you might find the food a little bland for the price, portions small didn't justify the ₹5,700 per head price tag.
Worth knowing before you go — especially if you're planning a large group tasting experience.
The Verdict from This Corner of South Delhi
Diva GK2 is one of those restaurants that has earned its place in the city's story. It was here before most of Delhi's current crop of trendy Italian spots existed, and it will likely outlast many of them too. Is it perfect every single time? No. Can a special tasting menu sometimes disappoint? Apparently yes. But on a regular evening, with a good table, a glass of wine chosen by the staff, a plate of gorgonzola ravioli, followed by duck breast and a Tiramisu — there are few better ways to spend a South Delhi evening.
Book in advance for weekends. Show up on time. Let the staff guide you on the wine. And whatever you do, don't skip the Tiramisu.
